Pretty much as expected. Lovely fall colors and a few extra things for kids to do. Walking paths I took a 4 year old boy here for the afternoon in the summer. We both enjoyed our time. I packed a A fun place for young families. Life size animatronic dinosaurs are placed in realistic settings in 40 acres of treed wetlands We enjoyed being able to access this type of forest on a great network of boardwalks, as normally you would have to don rubber boots or hip waders for this type of habitat!

Dinosaurs are labelled, as are many of the plants you will see on your walk. Boardwalks were being expanded when we were there in July, This Dinosaur park is an undiscovered gem in Edmonton! You ll turn off the highway onto a dirt road - don t panic - the park is about a kilometre on the dirt road. The park is not super well sign-posted anywhere, but don t let that fool you, it s very professionally done once inside.

You go through a small lobby area with some interesting exhibits. Food and drink is available for purchase. And you come out into a great big sand pit where the kids can become palaeontologists and search for buried dinosaur bones, or slide down the mouth of a TRex. Surrounding the play area are a bunch of picnic tables in the shaded trees so bring your lunch! Fun dinosaur egg-shaped strollers are available to rent didn t inquire on the prices, our kids are too old for strollers or you can bring your own stroller it s completely stroller-friendly the entire way around.

They are far enough away not to be scary when they roar they are all animatronic but close enough you get a good experience and pictures. I also liked that there were signposts along the Boardwalks that talked not just about the dinosaurs, but about the local plant and animal species. Overall it was very well done.

Good for kids of all ages. When we were there the kids around were all under age 10, and no one got scared at all. Overall, walking the Boardwalks was just the right length for young kids, not too long nor too short. Go - you ll love it! Conclusion - would not repeat nor recommend to my friends. I admire the entrepreneurship of the private family or company that set this up, and in fairness has some educational benefits if you can not travel to Drumheller 3 hours south of Edmonton.

If you want a nice walk, go to the river valley in Edmonton where there are dozens of really great trails and way better scenery. Although the idea of a "Jurassic Park" style park is good, it can be improved. Walking through the dense forest with my kids as a roars and sqwaks resonate through the forested facility, the younger ones get excited with the thrill of seeking out these creatures.

I take it with as any adult would or teen , its a nice walk through the forest but not very engaging. Sometimes the animatronics fail, the motions are very limited and since it is the third time we ve been here thank god for coupons , it becomes monotony. If they had an area with fossils intertwined within the walkabout, some displays about the area itself what it looked like millions of years ago, Also real live dino ancestors that exist today i m talking about lizards, reptiles and birds.

With this type of static displays you ll get people coming onc eor twice and then that is it. Our 5-year-old granddaughter asked us to take her to Jurassic Forest. My wife and I had driven by the park the weekend before on our way to Goose Hummock a local golf course so we were excited to go when asked. To our surprise the dinosaurs were life size, animated, and with sounds.

It was wonderful to see these monsters in a natural setting, albeit not natural to that period. The facility was clean, well maintained and the staff was friendly. When we were there the Park was crowded with children and parents, and all were having a great time. Just know that as a student of natural history I found the park to be very educational and well worth the price of admission. On a Friday morning, we decided to go on an adventure and see what the Jurassic Forest was all about.

We ve heard many good reports about it. From Edmonton, it took about 30 minutes to drive. Our family spent about 2. It was the perfect place for my dinosaur-obsessed 5 year old. Every m, there is a dinosaur exhibit in the woods that starts moving as you walk up to it. In addition to the hikes, there is a HUGE play area full of sand with "fossils" buried in it for kids to discover.

Despite all the fun we had, the best was truly the last thing we did. As you enter the gift shop, there is an audio-visual room that has videos playing on the wall and floor. My kids could have stayed in that room for hours. Overall - a great place for families with young kids or those who want a nice walk. Flights Holiday Rentals Restaurants Things to do. Basket 0. Sunday, 24 November Two new theropods in November! November s not quite done yet, and we ve seen two important new theropod dinosaurs named this month alone. Both of these are scientifically significant, and both come from Utah, but they lived at different times and are from different groups. Here, I will briefly introduce you to these two new dinosaurs, Lythronax and Siats. Siats meekororum First up is Siats meekororum , from the Late Cretaceous [1]. It s also the first time a dinosaur from the theropod group known as the neovenatorids has ever been found on this continent. It is known from a single incomplete individual, that was skeletally immature, and about 9m long, suggesting a fully grown individual would have been longer. We now know that there were large predatory theropods throughout the Cretaceous, and the presence of these other large predators likely prevented early success of they tyrannosaurs until after these allosauroids had disappeared. For a picture and another post on Siats , see Brian Switek s post here. It would have been about 8m in length, and lived during the Late Cretaceous, about 80 million years ago.

I quickly checked the placard and was somewhat surprised that my son was absolutely correct. Good job! The aforementioned Parasaurolophus can be found in the Jurassic Forest near Gibbons, Alberta —about a half an hour north of Edmonton, Canada which is a perfect place to visit when you are traveling with kids. The Jurassic Forest is a acre enclosed outdoor facility that is educational and entertaining for both children and adults. As my son had become enthralled by dinosaurs we thought that this would be a perfect place to visit. When we arrived at Jurassic Forest we saw the tall green trees of an old growth forest—a forest that is old and has experienced little disturbance—towering over a wooden enclosure, giving the impression that dinosaurs are behind the fence.
